Raised Dog Beds

As the name suggest, raised dog beds or elevated doge beds are those that are made and raised off the floor. Some are standard, nest, orthopedic beds or even mattresses inside a raised frame. Frames may be made of wood, wicker, metal or plastic. Other raised beds are actually designed to look like dog-sized sofas, even down to the smallest detail.

Here are some of the benefits that come with using raised dog beds for your dog

Raised dog beds ease joint and muscle pain by providing consistent “off-the-ground” support to the spinal column and hip joints.  These beds also raise the dog off the ground keeping them above cold and drafty floors during the winter period or away from the hot scoring floor during the summer season.  It also provides protection from  unwanted insects and other varmints. 

And unlike the more traditional stuffed dog bed, raised dog beds eliminate the space for odor causing bacteria buildup.

Cleaning up is also easy as most lifted dog beds come with machine-washable covers which can be simply removed by unzipping. Maintaining the cleanliness of an elevated bed frame is even easier; just wipe the bed with a wet cloth. Beds that are raised also allow you to clean the floor without moving the bed at all.

But before you rush off to get one, here are some important things to take note of when choosing one for your dog.

1. When choosing a raised dog bed, watch out for those that are made with PVC tubing.  PVC is easily chewed through by your dog, which creates small jagged pieces that can cause choking.

2.  The height of the raised dog bed is very important. It should be relative to the size of your dog. Do not purchase a bed that is raised 10 inches off the ground if your dog is just a mere 10 lbs with tiny legs. A bed that is raised too high could cause injury due to strain or a mid-night tumble.
